Classroom style

On any given Monday, you'll find Susan in front of her students in a pair of dress pants or, more likely, blue jeans and a simple sweater or shell top. "I feel too old to wear a lot of color," she admits. "I mostly own black, gray and brown."

Susan's wish

"I'm a free spirit, so I want my style to be easygoing without being too basic."

Dream look

To pull Susan out of her neutral rut, WD style editors paired a blue paisley blouse with rust-colored jeans, which complement the olive undertones in her skin. A pair of faux-suede ankle boots balance the bright pieces above, and a pendant necklace completes the bohemian style. "I love that this outfit is as down-to-earth as what I'm used to wearing to school—but a lot more fun," says Susan.

Styling tips

An elastic waistband keeps her blouse from overwhelming Susan's petite frame.

No need to tuck these ankle-length pants into boots.

Beauty lessons

HAIRPaul Labrecque painted a mix of light and medium brown tones onto Susan's hair to create an ombré effect, which requires less upkeep. Next, he cut off 2 inches in length and added long layers to reduce bulk on the sides. To define Susan's fine curls, he used a frizz-fighting cream, then polished her waves with a curling iron.
MAKEUPTo give Susan an even, healthy-looking complexion, Laura Geller used tinted moisturizer, blush (on apple of cheeks), highlighter (just above cheekbones and along browbone) and bronzer (to contour).

"To keep your makeup looking its best, always prep skin with a hydrating moisturizer," says Geller.

Classroom style

"I have two school-age kids, so I always feel like I'm running out the door," Jeanne says. "I stick to clothes that can be mixed and matched quickly." But Jeanne told WD that she's ready to bring her wardrobe back to life—this time with more color and spunk.

Jeanne's Wish

"I want a look that makes me feel confident and gives me an edge."

Jeanne Zeh: After

Dream look

Since Jeanne loves purples, WD style editors built her outfit around this magenta pencil skirt. The black top and matching tights and heels surround the vibrant hue to create figure-enhancing blocks of color. A teal faux-leather jacket and metal-studded accessories are the final touches.

Styling tips

Cuffed sleeves keep Jeanne's style more relaxed.

Opaque tights and shoes in the same shade elongate legs.

Beauty lessons

HAIRJeanne's hair lost over 3 inches in length, which instantly made it look healthier, and Labrecque cut choppy layers to create texture and movement. For color, he warmed up Jeanne's complexion by lightening her base hue and adding red highlights. Then he used a flat iron from midshaft to ends to give her a fun flip style.
MAKEUPGeller wanted to play up Jeanne's sparkling brown eyes, so she dusted an eggplant shadow over her lids to create a smoky effect. To soften the look, Geller swept pink blush on her cheeks, then used it to define the crease of her eyes, too.

"I'm amazed at how a few highlights transformed my look," says Zeh.

"Don't be afraid to try something new," says Labrecque. "A color change can take off five years."

Classroom style

"I am known around school as the cardigan queen," confesses Sonia. "It's what I build every outfit around." Sonia defaults to wearing her wardrobe staple over a cotton shirt or blouse with black dress pants and flats.

Sonia's Wish

"I'm tired of playing it safe. I want to look as fabulous as I feel."

Sonia Hameed: After

Dream look

Knowing Sonia was reluctant to leave her beloved button-up behind, WD style editors chose one in a fresh floral pattern. They layered it over an emerald green A-line dress and cinched it at the waist with a skinny belt to highlight Sonia's silhouette. A pairof blue suede pumps with a 2½" heel turned out to be Sonia's favorite part of the look. "These shoes are awesome! I can't believe how comfortable they are."

Styling tips

Closing a couple of the middle buttons helps draw the eye in.

A full, loose pleated skirt is slimming but fun and flirty too.

Beauty lessons

HAIRSince Sonia gets trims often, Labrecque only had to cut a few face-framing layers to revive her style. He added warm brown and crimson highlights and used an oil-based styling product to give hair a shiny, healthy finish.

MAKEUPSonia prefers a simple beauty routine, so Geller showed her how to make a big impact with minimal effort by making her lips a focal point with a moisturizing red lipstick. Applying this glamorous hue is an instant mood booster, and helped light up Sonia's face.
