Lyle's Anna Wintour Pan-Portrait
A Portrait Of Anna Wintour
Late last year, American artist Alex Katz asked legendary Vogue editor Anna Wintour to sit for him, after he noticed her ‘lovely eyes’ in the documentary The September Issue. The result? A boldly-colored painting that is now set to go on display at London’s National Portrait Gallery.
“Painting Anna was like shooting fish in a barrel. There was no way I could miss it,” Katz said of the opportunity.
As for Anna, she wholly approved of the idea, saying: “I couldn’t think of a nicer way to spend the afternoon. We talked for two hours while he worked.” As for the bold use of mustard yellow? “I was pleased to see that he used a lot of color, which I adore,” Anna said.
While some say the portrait makes her look younger, I just think that it softens her.
