When you're dating someone, you treat them well and make time for them regularly. That's a great way to treat a significant other, but why not show yourself the same courtesy? Whether you're single or in a relationship, loving and caring for yourself should be a priority. Learn to date yourself by making yourself a priority, showing yourself a good time, and getting to know yourself better.
Making Yourself a Priority
Choose to look your best everyday.You should feel proud of who you are in the mirror. Put your best foot forward and start impressing yourself. Make an effort with your appearance by cutting and styling your hair, trimming your nails, and wearing flattering clothing.
- Don't save your best outfits for special occasions spent with others. Dress up and look your best for yourself.

Build a self-care routine.One of the many perks of dating yourself is the ability to sense your innermost needs and meet them. Take time daily and weekly to address your mental, physical, and emotional needs with self-care.
- Cook yourself healthy and nutritious meals if you've overdid it on the junk food lately.
- Enforce a regular bedtime for yourself so you always feel rested and alert. Aim to get 8 hours of sleep each night.
Schedule regular “me” time.Everyone needs time alone every now and then, whether you're single or in a relationship. Time alone can be a great way to decompress after a long week or engage in your hobbies. Set aside for yourself each week.

Taking Yourself Out
See a movie you've been dying to see.Has a new release come out in the theater, but you can't find someone to go with you? No worries! Just take yourself to the movies alone. You don't need a date or friend to go with you.
Check out new restaurants that serve your favorite foods.Maybe a new restaurant has opened in your city that you've been dying to check out, but no one else likes that type of food. Put on a nice outfit and take yourself out for dinner.
- Immerse yourself in the meal by eating mindfully. Or, bring a book and read during your meal.
Take up a new skill to challenge yourself.Dating yourself can also translate to expanding your skills. Is there something you've always wanted to learn, but never made time for? If so, research classes or tutors in your area that can help you get started.
- For instance, you might sign up for a foreign language class, learn how to cook, or take a Flamenco dancing course.
Go somewhere you've never been.Make a list of fun or interesting places you haven't visited in your city or region. Then, challenge yourself to visit each place on your list. You might be surprised at the pleasure you get our of doing whatever you want to do.

- If you're strapped for cash, perform self-massage with oils when you're feeling tense or stressed.
Getting to Know Yourself
Be comfortable alone.Solitude can be uncomfortable if you're not used to it, but it can also be a valuable time to unwind. Challenge yourself to get outside your comfort zone and do more things on your own. Once you get used to being alone, you may even start to crave time to yourself.
- Start small by having a meal alone once a week. Then, gradually work your way up to doing things like shopping alone or taking a solo vacation.

Learn your likes and dislikes.A big part of dating yourself is learning what makes you you. When you're with a new partner, you pay special attention to what makes them happy or sad, smile or laugh, frown or revel in delight. Show yourself the same attention.

Live passionately.Make a commitment to date yourself in all seasons of life. Dating yourself shouldn't be done only when you're single or lonely. It's a way to nurture and care for yourself and live your best life.
- Strive to be your most vibrant self all the time.
- Regularly set and work towards personal goals. Explore interests that may differ from your partner's or friends'.
